Portraits for a mom, just because.

General Headshots Lifestyle

Something that been interesting for me as a photographer and an artist, is to watch the rise of the smartphone, and how it influences our portraits and lifestyles. Everyone wants to take snapshots of their friends, a great cup of coffee, or a trip to the beach, but portraits are a bit of lost art…at least portraits that feel well, special. So, when Lora came to me for “just because” portraits, I jumped right on board. Lora is a loving, active mama to two incredible boys, and is very creative. She’s social person and one can find her out and out about working in the wedding industry, with other creatives and if Lora is around, theres probably something tasty or beautiful around. Lora came from the wedding industry in San Francisco before settling in the hills of Ashland . There’s nothing she loves more than spending her time creating, as well as being with her children. She also has her very own Etsy shop, and she bakes loaves of bread that look so good, you can almost smell them through your Instagram feed (if only!).

I think with all our smartphones, we forget that portraits don’t need a special occasion. What if we approached portraits like our iPhone snapshots? I think they’d feel a little more like this: we would do sessions because we feel beautiful, or because we are happy, or because we are simply alive. There would be more sessions like this one to capture your personality, your joy, your style, and your movement. Especially for mamas, pouring out themselves to families and jobs and errands and work, these sessions are a special way to pamper yourself and create legacy images to pass down to your children.

Please contact me to schedule your shoot today…I’d love to share a cup of tea with you and document a shoot like this one.

12.19.27 This sequence of numbers means something. It means this man recently turned 86. 86? That's about what I've got in my savings. 86? It's an age that many of wont get to say we made it that far. And here, Alfred is still kicking it, laughin' up, and showing us gals a thing or two about heavy equipment. I went out to photograph this man as showed me around a large yard filled with machinery that he had worked on many years prior. He knew almost every engine. He knew the ends and outs of how they worked and how to fix them when they didn't. It's a art- fixing things rather than throwing them out and buying something new. ...

Love // Paul+Tessa
Love is powerful and a commitment to say yes to love, forever, is mighty brave. This love of Tessa and Paul is a beautiful thing to be around (and not such a bad gig to get to photograph their wedding in Hawaii either)
