The Young Family | Reunion in Southeast Alaska

July 19, 2017

Amid the hustle and bustle of today’s world, the traditions of family can sometimes get a bit lost. It’s hard to gather with small groups of family, and juggling schedules can be downright impossible when you factor in children, jobs, and travel. But this amazing family did just that; they managed to coordinate all five of their terrific sons and their families, and they had a reunion in Wrangell, Alaska. Wrangell is a gorgeous piece of the Alaskan landscape, with plenty of rich terrain and water to provide the backdrop for this sweet 4th of July week.

Because it was the holiday weekend, there was plenty to celebrate, and Wrangell is full of deep patriotism and traditions. Although there was lots of hubbub in the streets, we found plenty of joy right there in their home. The Young family enveloped me right into their happy clan, and I loved documenting the laughter (and tears) of the little ones, being present at their table during meals, and hearing all their stories. What a beautiful group of people, and I was so welcomed. You’ll notice there’s quite a few photos in today’s blog; more than normal. I really hope you see the narrative that unfolds in these, and the way they speak to the unbreakable bond of family. The Young family is hardworking, kind, compassionate, and they embody the spirit of Alaska.

I am passionate about photographing generations together. I believe there is such power and wholeness when children get to see grandparents and great-grandparents…their smiles, their faces, and the stories that lie within. There is value in the memories, especially in lifestyle and candid ones. As I work on my business this year, creating purposeful images is a main focus. Being a photographer means were are gifted with the opportunity to help people remember. We are able to be storytellers and heirloom makers. If you are ever interested in my Legacy Project, which includes a videographer to help tell your story, I’d love to share more. You can reach out to me on my contact page!

Young Family, thank you. My heart and soul are full.
